What is Green Lipped Mussel?
The Green Lipped Mussel found in Puptons’ delicious joint support treats has been sourced entirely from green shelled mussels native to the shores of New Zealand. These mussels are highly prized for their exceptional nutritional qualities and they contain an array of beneficial vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids, amino acids and all-important glycoproteins.
In short, the mussels that we use to make these Green Lipped Mussel Treats For Dogs are of the absolute highest quality available and are bursting with important nutrients to support your dog’s joint health.
The Green Lipped Mussel used in these treats is not defatted and contains a minimum of 3% glycosaminoglycans. In simple terms – it contains more of the good stuff than defatted Green Lipped Mussel, including high levels of all-important Omega-3 fatty acids to help your dog thrive.
Benefits of Green Lipped Mussel Treats For Dogs
Green Lipped Mussel has been a staple ingredient in joint health supplements for decades. In fact, most decent joint formulas contain this trusted ingredient – including our very own Total Joint Care Tablets, which also contains a further 7 research-proven ingredients.
The problem with most other dog supplements that contain Green Lipped Mussel is that they simply don’t contain enough of it. That’s why we offer this incredible nutrient in both pure powder format and now wrapped into these delicious daily treats.
Each Puptons’ treat contains a massive 600mg Green Lipped Mussel, which makes them the most potently-dosed Green Lipped Mussel supplement for dogs, anywhere. In comparison, the UK’s market-leading joint supplement for dogs contains only 150mg Green Lipped Mussel per tablet – so each of our treats is equivalent to consuming 4 tablets.
There are a wide range of benefits that can be obtained from adding Green Lipped Mussel to your dog’s diet, but in relation to joint health, they include:
- Less joint inflammation
- The ability to soothe stiff and aching joints
- Decreased levels of joint pain
- Improved mobility and quality of life for your dog
Does My Dog Need a Green Lipped Mussel Supplement?
Based upon scientific research in combination with real-world results, the evidence strongly suggests that supplementing your dog with Green Lipped Mussel will support their joint health. So, if your dog is suffering with joint pain, inflammation or reduced levels of mobility, then the chances are that Green Lipped Mussel can make all the difference.
In addition, at Puptons we are big advocates of the notion that prevention is better than cure. So we support the use of Green Lipped Mussel as a defence mechanism against potential future joint issues in dogs. This is of even greater importance if your dog is one of the breeds that is more susceptible to developing mobility and joint problems as they get older. These breeds in particular include: labradors, spaniels, varieties of mountain dog, rottweilers, retrievers and German shepherds.

FAQs
In our experience, dogs usually notice results within around 3-4 weeks of continuous usage. Some dogs will respond sooner than this, and some will take a little longer.
Absolutely. Our Green Lipped Mussel is a 100% pure source of green lipped mussels sourced from the waters of New Zealand and then ground into a fine powder. This is unlike a lot of other Green Lipped Mussel supplements, which call themselves Green Lipped Mussel but can contain as little a 10% with the rest coming from cheap filler ingredients such as maltodextrin.
Green Lipped Mussel is a safe and effective supplement and daily usage will give your dog’s joints the support they need. It can be used indefinitely, unless otherwise advised by a medical professional or if your dog develops an intolerance to it (which is highly unlikely).
99% of dogs love the taste of Green Lipped Mussel Powder sprinkled over their food (ideally wet food) due to its strong fish taste. There are always instances where a dog will not like the taste, but there is nothing that can be done to protect against this and it is unique to each dog.
We suggest waiting until your puppy is a minimum of 12 weeks old before using Green Lipped Mussel. Before this age there is little benefit to using joint supplements.
No. GreeN Lipped Mussel, as the name indicates, is made from New Zealand sourced mussels, which are a member of the mollusc family.
Yes. Green Lipped Mussel is suitable for dogs following a gluten free diet.
Yes. Joint supplements such as Green Lipped Mussel are perfectly safe for dogs and should be seen as an extension of their diet – providing them with all the nutrients needed for optimal joint health.
Where your dog has pre-existing joint problems, Green Lipped Mussel can help to alleviate these issues in the majority of cases. In some instances, it may be that a dog’s joints have deteriorated to the point where supplementation will not yield any visible signs of improvement, but in these instances our experience is that at the very least it will help to prevent further deterioration.
Total Joint Care is not recommended for pregnant or lactating bitches. Additionally, if your dog is under medical supervision, then we would suggest consulting a vet prior to use. If your dog is not a fan of fish in general, then we would suggest avoiding Green Lipped Mussel.
Our premium Green Lipped Mussel Powder contains a minimum of 3% glycosaminoglycans.
No! Our Green Lipped Mussel For Dogs is non-defatted. This means that it has a higher fat content than other "defatted" Green Lipped Mussel supplements and thus retains more of the all-important omega 3 fatty acids and glycosaminoglycans that will help your dog thrive.
